Hearing for Driver in Fatal Upstate NY Bus Wreck

Syracuse, NY – The driver of a double-decker Megabus that smashed into a low bridge in upstate New York, killing four passengers, is due in court for a pretrial hearing.

The hearing for 60-year-old John Tomaszewski of Yardville, N.J., is scheduled for Monday morning in Onondaga County Court. Tomaszewski pleaded not guilty last month to criminally negligent homicide charges.

His bus failed to clear a railroad bridge after he made a wrong turn off an interstate highway late at night just outside downtown Syracuse in September.
Tomaszewski's lawyer said he suffered a traumatic brain injury in the wreck.

A prosecutor has said he talked with victims' families about whether to seek prison time if Tomaszewski pleads guilty or is convicted at trial.

The grand jury that indicted him also issued a sealed report on road conditions that contributed to the accident.
