Plattsburgh, NY – The heavy rains that have swelled Lake Champlain's boundaries are now causing problems away from the lake's shores. Saturated ground is now causing landslides. In Barre Vermont, city officials evacuated homes on Hill Top Avenue Sunday after about 12 feet of ground disappeared into the street below and the risk of more landslides lingered. Vermont Emergency Management Director Mike O'Neill says, so far, the only major slides in the state are in Barre. But O'Neill is cautioning residents, especially in the Barre area, to be aware of the ground's condition......

Essex County, New York has seen a slowly creeping landslide occurring over the past few weeks on Porter Mountain. The 82 acre slide that began May 10th has led to one home being condemned and threatens 4 others. Essex County Director of Emergency Services Don Jaquist says there have also been landslides along Lake Champlain....

Associate New York State Geologist Dr. Andrew Kozlowski is studying the Adirondack landslide. He says while this is a slow slide, it is causing significant damage......
