Albany, NY – A bill in Albany would allow New York and its local governments to "piggy back" purchasing on the lowest negotiated prices by governments nationwide. WAMC's Tristan O'Neill reports...
The bill sponsored by Republican Senator Betty Little would allow the state and local governments to consider the prices in "master contracts" nationwide that might provide lower prices for products, including high technology items.
Local governments have long had the ability to buy cars and other things under New York's "state contract," but this bill would allow that on a national scale.
A group called "U.S. Communities" that runs the program was recently in Albany lobbying for the bill. It says only New York and New Jersey aren't part of the program.
