West Point, NY – More than one thousand cadets graduated from the U.S. Military Academy Saturday, but not before hearing from the nation's top military official. WAMC's Greg Fry reports...
Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, made mention of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and said that the nation has been at war for nearly half of their lives. He spoke about the need for graduates to help lead the nation, by winning wars overseas, and by communicating with the American public, and fellow soldiers, back home.
"Know that our trust and confidence goes with you. The American people go with you. We are grateful for who you are, and all that you will do for the Army, and shoulder to shoulder with your fellow citizens, for the nation, and for the world," Mullen said.
Mullen told cadets that the military makes up less than one percent of the population. He asked them to be soldiers, along with statesmen, but to always remember that they are citizens first. First Lady Michelle Obama addressed cadets at a banquet Friday night.
