Poughkeepsie, NY – State mental health officials plan to close an inpatient psychiatric center in the mid-Hudson Valley and consolidate its operations with a center closer to New York City. WAMC's Tristan O'Neill reports...
The Office of Mental Health says the Hudson River Psychiatric Center in Poughkeepsie would largely be shut down, with all of its patients either transferred to the Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg or community residences, depending on their needs.
The center's off-campus outpatient programs would continue to operate. The agency said those on the Poughkeepsie campus will also continue, but could be moved out to leased space if another use is found for the property.
The center serves Putnam, Ulster and Dutchess counties. The agency posted a legal notice about the closing on Tuesday. The number of patients affected wasn't immediately available.
