Former Top British Official Says bin Laden's Death Sends Clear Message to the World

New Paltz, NY – A former top British official says the death of Osama bin Laden, an icon atop al-Qaeda, sends a clear message to the world. WAMC's Greg Fry reports...

Former British diplomat Ray Raymond says it is important to remember that bin Laden had little to do with the operations within al-Qaeda in recent years, serving in a position comparable to a chairman emeritus and founder.

Raymond, who now teaches at West Point, and at SUNY Ulster, adds that the mission ending in bin Laden's death does send a significant message. He says it shows that the U.S. will spare no time and no effort to track down those responsible for acts of terror.

Raymond believes that bin Laden's image will still be used. He's sure there will be attempts at retribution toward the U.S. and Britain, and says defenses must be very tight for that reason.
