Albany, NY – Officials in one Capital Region city are hoping a 6-thousand dollar donation to support local arts organizations will serve as a model and encourage more giving. Capital District Bureau Chief Dave Lucas reports.
Local law firm Harris Beach approached city officials about making a contribution to help some of the larger arts organizations. Mayor Jerry Jennings says the Albany Common Council recently reinstated funding for smaller arts groups across the city: he hopes the cash gift from Harris Beach will help raise awareness of the importance of the arts and the challenges the six individual organizations (Albany Center Gallery, Albany Institute of History and Art, The Albany Symphony Orchestra, Capital Rep, The Palace Theater and Park Playhouse) are facing right now.
