Albany, NY – Restoring and protecting our rivers has been a top environmental concern for decades. Successful conservation and restoration efforts targeting the Hudson River have encouraged similar endeavors on the Mohawk River, as we hear in this report from Capital District Bureau Chief Dave Lucas.
Designed to complement the successful Hudson River Estuary Program, the Mohawk River Basin Action Agenda aims to foster a regional partnership to manage the natural resources of the river and its watershed for a sustainable future. The draft Action Agenda identifies five priority goals for the Mohawk Basin which, if fully realized, would enhance ecosystem health and the vitality of the region. Advocates for the Mohawk now see multiple agencies, cooperating, pooling resources and advancing initiatives to enhance and protect the waterbody. Along the Hudson, dredging is coming to an end, with a restart scheduled for May 2011.
