Berkshire Golf Pro Killed In Storm

The Great Barrington Town Seal
Town Of Great Barrington

A Berkshire County golf pro was killed by a falling tree during a storm in Great Barrington, Massachusetts Wednesday.

Thomas Sullivan, 71, had been the head golf professional at Wyantenuck Country Club since 1999. A branch torn off a tree on the club’s golf course struck Sullivan while he was searching the grounds for stray golfers during the violent storm.

Sullivan was a sitting board member of the Northeast New York PGA Association, and was voted its Golf Professional of the year in 2017 and elected to its Hall of Fame in 2018.

Wyantenuck says Sullivan will be sorely missed by its staff and members, describing his golf lessons as legendary. He leaves behind a wife and two children.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018 after working at stations including WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Berkshire County, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production.
