Vermont Officials Debate Over Mail-In Voting
Vermont's Republican Gov. Phil Scott says he's in favor of preparing to hold the November election by mail, but he wants an objective panel to determine if it's needed.
Democratic Secretary of State Jim Condos says planning must begin now to ensure the ballots can be delivered to voters and then returned to local voting authorities by Election Day. Scott wants a panel to determine if mail in ballots are necessary. “No one running for election in November should be part of that committee. It’s an objective panel that takes a look just based on facts.”
The Vermont Senate is working on legislation that would allow the Secretary of State's office to make any decisions regarding Vermont’s general election preparedness.
