WAMC has learned that a hotel in Pittsfield, Massahusetts is housing up to 75 homeless individuals recovering from COVID-19.

The Hilton Garden Inn in Pittsfield has been established as an "isolation and recovery" center by the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency. It will provide 24/7 COVID-19 recovery for people experiencing homeless who do not require hospitalization, unlike many homeless shelters which do not offer on-site daytime support. It is the first such request of a Massachusetts federally qualified health center, and is said to possibly be the first of its kind nationally.

The hotel is closed to other guests while it provides this function.
