Sunday morning, three buildings were burned to the ground in Mount Washington, Massachusetts, a small, remote Berkshire town in the state’s southwest  corner between New York and Connecticut. Brian Tobin serves as select board member, director of emergency management, and acting police chief in the community of around 160. He spoke to WAMC about the fires, their impact on the people of Mount Washington, and what authorities are doing to respond.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018 after working at stations including WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Berkshire County, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. You can reach him at jlandes@wamc.org with questions, tips, and/or feedback.
