The W.E.B. Du Bois Legacy Committee of Great Barrington, Massachusetts, is accepting nominations for its second annual W.E.B. Du Bois Legacy Award.

Randy Weinstein is the founder of the Du Bois Center in Great Barrington and the chair of the legacy committee. He says the award is designed to celebrate those in the community who embrace the values of the Great Barrington native – including progressive education, economic justice, and civil rights.

“Anyone of those categories, if someone shines in them, if someone is a superlative teacher or a mentor or anything else that falls under those auspices, that’s who the town is going to take a look at,” he told WAMC.

Du Bois scholar and Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer Dr. David Levering Lewis won the first award. Nominations are due November 1st.
