Pittsfield, Massachusetts has issued a warning about testing for a dangerous algae in a city lake.

The city says the Massachusetts Department of Public Health has concerns that an excessive amount of algae that might contain toxic bacteria is blooming in Lake Pontoosuc. Director of Public Health Gina Armstrong.

“If it is present, it can cause things such as gastrointestinal illness, skin irritation. Pets that drink the water could have more serious reaction which would affect the liver and the kidneys.”

Pittsfield is advising that no one swim or boat in the lake until test results come back.
