The president of the Pittsfield, Massachusetts city council will seek re-election this fall.

Councilor At-Large Peter Marchetti says not only is he seeking a seventh term, but also asking his fellow councilors to elect him council president for the third time. He touted his ability to work with Mayor Linda Tyer, citing their work on lowering overtime payment to the fire department by hiring a full staff.

“Once we’re able to get the new police officers through, we’ll see the same exact thing," Marchetti told WAMC. "I think once we’re up to the complement of officers, we’ll see a reduction in crime.”

Marchetti was the top vote-getter among the 4 at-large councilors in the 2017 election.
