The public airport in North Adams, Massachusetts is getting a new administrative building.
The building will travel around 150 yards from its current location on Budd Dougherty Drive to a foundation on the Harriman-and-West airport campus. Formerly a property of the shuttered North Adams Regional Hospital, it was first bought by Berkshire Health Systems and then donated to the city. North Adams City Administrator Michael Canales explains why the city wanted to use an existent structure instead of a new construction.
“The airport commission felt as though the design of this building and the layout of this building fit this area better than the standard designed they came up with for the other one, plus it was going to be about $2 million less,” Canales told WAMC.
The full administrative building project is estimated to cost just over $3.6 million. The move begins at 8 a.m. Thursday and is expected to last between 60 to 90 minutes.
