Vermont legislators are scheduled to issue a report meant to help guide the future of the state's foundational land use law.
The Act 250 Commission, comprised of six lawmakers drawn equally from the House and Senate, is expected to focus on environmental protection and climate change in their report that will suggest changes to Act 250. The Burlington Free Press reports the subject of climate change is currently not addressed by the text of the legislation.
Commission Chair Democratic Representative Amy Sheldon says they were asked to consider if the act had met its original goals of protecting the environment.
Passed in 1970, Act 250 has governed larger-scale development in Vermont for nearly 50 years, with a list of 10 criteria for developments.
