The 2019 Tanglewood schedule is out.

Mark Volpe is President and CEO of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the organization that owns Tanglewood and has been performing on its sprawling compound in Lenox, Massachusetts since 1936.

He says in addition to favorites like Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, and John Williams, the summer will also see a performance of “Die Walküre, the Wagner — one of the four Ring Cycle operas with a phenomenal cast, a cast anyone would be jealous of, and then a Verdi requiem.”

2019 will also mark the opening of the Tanglewood Learning Institute as well as the center’s first full-season building complex.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
