A former Vermont state senator convicted of setting up his tenant to have sex with one of his acquaintances is asking the Vermont Supreme Court to grant him a new trial.
66-year-old Norm McAllister claimed in Supreme Court arguments Wednesday that there were a number of errors in the trial, including that the court erred in striking a woman's testimony.
McAllister was sentenced last fall to one year of probation and mandatory sex offender treatment for his 2017 misdemeanor conviction of prohibited acts.
MyNBC5 reports that Prosecutor David Tartter argued that McAllister's attorney could have clarified the point during the trial.
McAllister, a Republican, represented Franklin County in the state Senate when he was arrested in 2015. He lost a re-election bid in the August 2016 primary.
