Adams Man Pleads Guilty To Terrorism Related Charges

Jane Flavell Collins

An Adams, Massachusetts man pleaded guilty to multiple terrorism-related charges in a Springfield courtroom Monday.

Alexander Ciccolo was arrested in Adams three years ago after plotting attacks on police stations and colleges in the name of the so-called Islamic State. He entered guilty pleas to four charges Monday. Berkshire Eagle reporter Bob Dunn was there.

“It was very straightforward, very matter of fact. Mr. Ciccolo appeared to be pretty nonchalant.”

Those charges were providing material support for a terrorist organization, attempting to use weapons of mass destruction, being a prohibited person in possession of firearms, and assault with a dangerous weapon. His sentencing to 20 years in prison, part of the plea bargain, is scheduled for September 5th.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
