The Adams, Massachusetts man arrested in what authorities say was a plot to carry out a terrorist attack has been charged with attempting to provide support to a foreign terrorist organization.Alexander Ciccolo has also been charged with attempting to use weapons of mass destruction. Ciccolo was arrested outside his Adams apartment in July 2015 after ordering and receiving guns from a person cooperating with law enforcement.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says the 23-year-old was planning a terrorist act, alleging he is a supporter of the Islamic State terrorist group. Authorities say Ciccolo also bought a pressure cooker, similar to those used in the Boston Marathon bombing, and talked about setting it off in places like college cafeterias.

Until now Ciccolo had only been charged with being a convicted person in possession of firearms and for assaulting a nurse during his jail intake process.

Ciccolo is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Springfield July 7.
