The University of Vermont Children's Hospital is taking over a clinic formed to help children with cleft lips and palates.
The program is set to be taken over by the hospital when the Vermont Department of Health phases out its financial and administrative support in January 2019.
The Burlington Free Press reports Dr. Don Laub, Vermont's only pediatric plastic surgeon, says he's still concerned about funding and access for these children. He's treated such cases for two decades.
The hospital's chief of pediatrics, Dr. Lewis First, says the hospital would create a "state-of-the-art" program for children with the birth defect.
The decision has ended months of speculation and concern about the fate of the clinic as the state ends its involvement in it.
