State funds will be allocated to replace a dilapidated bridge in Cheshire, Massachusetts.

The town used Chapter 90 highway funding to make minor repairs to a bridge on Sand Mill Road two years ago.

But upon completion, the town says more work is needed.

The Cheshire Select Board was notified Tuesday that the bridge will be replaced by the state  – with construction set to begin in 2022.

The bridge was placed on the Berkshire Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Transportation Improvement Program list, which is run by the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission and funded by MassDOT.

The project will be funded by $2.5 million in state and federal dollars.
