Executive Director Van Shields announcing the Berkshire Museum's New Vision plan in July.

The Berkshire Museum’s executive director is returning to work amid a controversial plan to sell off art to fund renovations and an endowment.

In October, Berkshire Museum Executive Director Van Shields stepped aside to undergo heart surgery.

This week, Shields returned to work in Pittsfield on a part-time basis.

Co-executive directors Nina Garlington and Craig Langlois, as well as the Board of Trustees, have led the museum in Shield’s absence.

The art sale is still on hold. An Appeals Court judge in Boston has extended an injunction through January 29th so the Massachusetts’ Attorney General’s office can conclude its inquiry.
