Savoy, Massachusetts was one of the first towns in Berkshire County to approve a wind power bylaw a decade ago. The town is considering rescinding it.
Savoy is holding a public hearing on December 20th to discuss possible changes to the town’s wind power bylaw. A special town meeting vote on the zoning issue is set for the next day.
The meetings were sparked by a petition signed by more than 20 percent of the town’s registered voters.
If approved, The Berkshire Eagle reports, a deal brokered with developer Minuteman Wind for a five-turbine, $31 million wind project would not be affected by the bylaw change. In September, voters rejected zoning demands made by the developer, putting the project at a standstill.
The meetings start at 6:30 p.m. at the town fire station.
