Housing Agency Plans Move To Former Downtown Bus Terminal

The Peter Pan Bus terminal building

Plans will be announced Monday to redevelop the old bus terminal on Main Street in downtown Springfield, Massachusetts.

The housing agency, Way Finders, plans to make the former bus terminal its new headquarters.

Peter Pan Bus Company head Peter Picknelly announced in November he planned to sell the building before moving his company’s corporate offices to Union Station.

" The last thing we want is to have that building abandoned, so that area will be redeveloped," said Picknelly.

The bus terminal, in use since 1969, has been largely empty since last summer when intercity and transit bus operations transferred to Union Station.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
