A tentative contract agreement has been reached for teachers in the second-largest school district in Massachusetts after more than a year of negotiations.
The proposed four-year contract would cover 2,600 teachers in the Springfield Public Schools, who worked this school year without a contract.
Superintendent of Schools Dan Warwick said the proposed salary structure guarantees that no Springfield teacher, regardless of current pay level, makes less than the average pay for teachers across western Massachusetts.
" Everybody wins in this contract," said Warwick. " The minimum ( pay ) increase in this contract over four years is 9.2 percent."
A ratification vote by the teachers union is scheduled in mid-June.
