The Baker Administration has announced an additional $6.8 million to go toward the Last Mile Infrastructure Grant Program to bring broadband internet networks to rural communities in Central and Western Massachusetts.
Otis, which was the only Western Massachusetts town to get money in this round of funding, got the largest grant at $1.7 million.
Charlemont, Colrain, Cummington, Heath, New Salem and Rowe in Central Massachusetts also received the Last Mile grants, which will allow each community to design, engineer and construct municipally-owned broadband networks.
This is the second group of towns to receive grants under this program. The first round of funds – about $4.6 million – went to Ashfield, Leyden, Mt. Washington, Plainfield, Shutesbury, and Windsor in early May. Last week, Baker toured West Stockbridge to see how state funds have helped local business owners.
