Senator Richard Blumenthal

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal from Connecticut wants to stop GOP from rolling back major workplace safety regulations.

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut, announced legislation to restore worker protections following Republican-led votes to rollback major workplace safety regulations.

Blumenthal says the GOP efforts to reduce safety regulations have made the jobs of blue collar workers –that are already hazardous – even more dangerous.

“The roll back of these rules make work places more dangerous," Blumenthal says. "It's simply a matter of life and death for people who work in construction sites, meat packing houses or other places that may be dangerous. The basic rule essentially establishes a level playing field so that employers who endanger worker safety cannot compete fairly with the guys who play by the rules.”

Blumenthal says industries could also get away with not documenting serious injuries if the rollback continues.
