The Vermont Department of Mental Health says people in crisis in the state can now send a text message to people trained to help them.
The new, 24-hour Crisis Text Line provides round-the-clock support, seven days a week by providing access to the counselors via text messaging.
The service is being offered through a partnership between the Vermont Department of Mental Health and the national organization Crisis Text Line.
Mental Health Medical Director Dr. Jaskanwar Batra says the department's mission is to ensure Vermonters have access to effective and meaningful mental health support services.
People needing help should send a text with the letters "VT" to 741741.
