The results of standardized tests given in Massachusetts schools last year are a mixed bag for the state’s second largest school system.
Nine Springfield Public Schools are now ranked at the top level of the state education department’s accountability system. Five years ago there was a single Level 1 school in Springfield.
An elementary school that had been on a watch list exited that status as a result of its most recent student test scores.
Springfield Superintendent of Schools Dan Warwick said attendance, and graduation rates have both improved over the last four years.
"So, everything is moving in the right direction," said Warwick.
Springfield’s High School of Commerce was flagged for a possible state takeover if there is not significant academic improvement at the school in a year.
