State Police Investigating Alleged Thefts Of Money, Drugs From Lee PD

Massachusetts State Police are investigating the alleged theft of evidence from the Lee Police Department.About $1,400 in cash was stolen from the Lee Police Department’s evidence locker, according to a release issued Tuesday by the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office. Lee Police became suspicious in late July when the money was discovered missing. It has since been returned. Drugs received by the Department’s “Drop Off Box” for unused medications, including opioids, were also stolen. The release notes that Lee Police Officer Ryan Lucy, one of two assigned to the evidence locker, entered substance abuse treatment August 29th and resigned shortly after. The statement does not directly accuse Lucy of the thefts.  The DA’s office says the investigation is ongoing and no further information will be available until it is completed.

The incident comes the same year as former Lee Police Chief Joseph Buffis was sentenced to 27 months in prison for extortion. He was acquitted of 10 counts related to his handling of a charity toy fund.
