Police Say Owner Cited To Appear In Court In Dog Death

Police say the owner of a dog that died after being left in a hot car in Colchester, Vermont will face charges.
Police say 54-year-old Stacey Barrientos of Colchester is expected to be charged with animal cruelty. She was cited to appear in court on Oct. 6.

Police tell the Burlington Free Press that the 4-year-old Labrador retriever died Monday after it was left in a locked car where the temperature reached more than 100 degrees.

Responding officers forced entry into the vehicle after getting a call and seeing that the dog was in distress.

The animal was taken to an emergency veterinarian where it was pronounced dead.

It was not immediately known if Barrientos was being represented by an attorney. There was no phone listing in her name.
