Developers are seeking a permit from Vermont regulators to build a wind-power project of up to seven turbines on a ridge in Swanton capable of producing electricity for about 7,300 households.
Swanton Wind officially filed an application Thursday with the Vermont Public Service Board for a Certificate of Public Good.
Principal developers Ashley and Travis Belisle say they want to build the turbines behind their Swanton home on a low-elevation hillside they own off Route 105 just outside St. Albans.
The $40 million project would be the state's sixth industrial-scale wind project. The turbines could be operational sometime in 2018.
The proposal includes an offer to buy out close neighbors who object to the turbines. They would have six months to consider the offer after the project goes online.
