The demolition continues for a North Adams church that has stood for more than 150 years. The future of the parcel of land remains up in the air.The Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield expects the demolition and cleanup of St. Francis in downtown North Adams to be completed by late September or early October. Bishop Mitchell Rozanski says the Diocese is working with the city on the site’s future.
“There’s lots of interest in that property, but we just want to make sure that whatever is done is beneficial to everybody,” said Rozanski.
Emergency demolition started in May when debris started falling from the shuttered church. The property has been on the market since 2009.
