Connecticut is boasting about the success of a bus system between Hartford and New Britain. On Tuesday, Governor Dannel Malloy announced that CTfastrack has carried more than 4 million riders since its March 2015 launch. The Democrat says there were 10,000 passenger boardings on an average weekday in July 2016, a 23 percent increase over July 2015.

“Ridership levels that we originally expected to see in 2030 are happening right now,” said Malloy.

The roughly $567 million 9.4-mile bus-only corridor was launched after 18 years of study. Critics have called the project a boondoggle that has taken money from more important transportation projects. The federal government has shouldered most of the cost, with about $112 million coming from the state.
