Rutland's Board of Aldermen has voted to launch an investigation into whether Mayor Christopher Louras broke any laws when he proposed that the Vermont city become a refugee resettlement site.
The Committee of the Whole unanimously voted Thursday to recommend that City Attorney Charles Romeo review Louras' actions to find if he was in compliance with state law.

The Rutland Herald reports that Mayor Louras was specifically excluded from the hour-long executive session, which was called to discuss legal concerns regarding the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program in Rutland.

Louras says he welcomes the inquiry because he has nothing to hide.

The mayor announced in April that he had sought out refugee program officials to convince them to choose Rutland as a resettlement site.
