A partnership has been created between top law enforcement, large hospitals, and social service providers in western Massachusetts to fight opioid addiction.
District Attorney Anthony Gulluni said the Hampden County Addiction Task Force will lead a unified county-wide approach to preventing and treating addiction. He called it a “moral action.”
" People who are facing addiction are suffering from a disease. Lets treat them as such and provide them with the services and rehabilitation necessary to get them out of the awful situation," said Gulluni.
He said the first action will be to determine how many treatment beds are needed in the county and then lobby the Baker administration to pay for them.
The partners include the Hampden County Sheriff, Baystate Health, and Sisters of Providence Health System.
