Opponents of planned wood-burning power plant in Springfield, Massachusetts are calling on the city’s health board to review the project.
After holding a preliminary hearing in January, the Springfield Public Health Council is expected to vote on June 15th on whether to schedule a site assignment hearing.
Michaelann Bewsee of Arise For Social Justice said the hearing is a process under state law to determine if an activity poses a danger to the public health.
" The Public Health Council, that is their job and we just want them to do their job," said Bewsee.
The developers of the plant, Palmer Renewable Energy, argue the local health board has no jurisdiction since the plant has obtained an air permit from state environmental regulators.
