The city council in Springfield, Massachusetts is scheduled to vote Monday on a special permit for the city’s first medical marijuana dispensary.
Hampden Care Facility has applied to operate a dispensary on Cottage Street. It is an area with mostly warehouses and light-industrial buildings.
Mayor Domenic Sarno said city officials have thoroughly vetted the proposed facility.
" We set the guidelines and the benchmarks that have to be met for medical marijuana, which I support because it helps individuals with debilitating illnesses and disease," said Sarno. "
The state department of public health will have to issue a license before the facility can open. The only medical marijuana clinic in western Massachusetts opened last fall in Northampton.
