An embattled Berkshire County residential school for males with developmental disabilities that is facing allegations of abuse and attempts to cover up wrongdoing will close later this month. As of Friday, Eagleton School’s residential group care licenses have been revoked and its approval as a provider of publicly-funded special education has been withdrawn. That’s according to the state’s Early Education and Care and Elementary and Secondary Education departments.

The state says most of the roughly 75 students have already moved to new institutions. Eagleton will stay open for the remaining students until April 15.

In February, five staffers at the Great Barrington school were charged in connection with allegations of abuse against students.

State monitors later noted further reports of residents being abused and uncovered staff failing to comply with state law regarding reporting abuse allegations.
