To mark National Consumer Protection Week, experts are stressing that anyone can fall victim to a scam.
Milagros Johnson, director of the Springfield Mayor’s Office of Consumer Information says people in western Massachusetts need to guard against identity theft and imposter scams, such as phone callers claiming to be from the IRS and demanding money.
" Those are the calls we get on a daily basis which is why our motto is: education is the best prevention," she said. " Scams are so prevalent now and we are all vulnerable."
Johnson said the top consumer complaints are about motor vehicle sales and repairs.
