New President Named At Springfield Museums

Springfield Museums

A new president has been named at the Springfield Museums.

Kay Simpson, who has worked at the Springfield Museums for 35 years, takes over as president as an effort is beginning to open a fifth museum at the complex.  It would be devoted to famed children’s book author, and Springfield native, Theodore Geisel.

"It is a wonderful moment for the Springfield Museums to be on the verge of opening the Dr. Seuss museum and I am just very pleased and feel privileged to be part of it and to be taking on this leadership role," Simpson said in an interview.

A fund raising campaign for the new museum will be announced in June.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
