Vermont Governor Criticizes Stay On Clean Power Plan

Smokestacks

Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin is criticizing the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to stay President Barack Obama's "clean power plan." Shumlin also is stepping up his calls for the state pension funds to divest themselves of coal company stocks.
The high court on Tuesday ordered a halt to enforcement of the crackdown on coal-fired power plants until legal arguments surrounding the plan are resolved.

Shumlin said at a news conference Wednesday that means emissions from Midwestern power plants will continue to flow into Vermont unabated.

The governor surrounded himself with officials from the Agency of Natural Resources and its departments, as well as James Ehlers of Lake Champlain International, to talk about harmful effects of pollution flowing into Vermont's waters and forests.
