Nuclea Biotechnologies is closing a Pittsfield lab as part of a reorganization. The move comes one month after the company appointed a new CEO.In shifting its focus to commercialization, Nuclea says it is de-emphasizing some of its research and development efforts and streamlining operations. The move includes eliminating an unknown number of positions in Pittsfield and Cambridge along with closing a Pittsfield lab. As part of the shift toward commercial operations Don Pogorzelski was appointed Nuclea’s CEO in December when he spoke with WAMC.

“I think that Nuclea is a very, very interesting position right now,” Pogorzelski said. “It could be a great position based on how we execute.”

Nuclea has developed diagnostic tests for cancer and diabetes. Co-founder and Pittsfield native Pat Muraca stepped down as CEO to head a spinoff development company last month. Nuclea employed 72 people as of December.
