In an effort to bolster sales, Pittsfield-based Nuclea Biotechnologies is bringing on a team of business and development specialists.Historically a research and development company, Nuclea is now manufacturing and selling its own products, such as cancer detecting tests, directly to clinical and hospital laboratories. Dr. Mary Lopez joins Nuclea as COO along with five others from Cambridge-based Thermo Fisher Scientific. Nuclea’s CEO Pat Muraca says the hires will boost the company’s commercialization.

“Moving the clinical laboratories forward in both Cambridge and Pittsfield and really marketing the new FDA-approved products…it’s going to be hopefully a banner year for us,” said Muraca.

Nuclea employs more than 70 people in Pittsfield and Cambridge.
