Connecticut Local Election Turnout Was 33 Percent

wikipedia.org

Turnout for municipal elections in Connecticut continues to be low, with 32.7 percent of registered voters going to the polls earlier this week.Secretary of the State Denise Merrill says the figures are on par with recent municipal elections.

She called it "paradoxical" that local elections, which have a direct effect on people's everyday lives, would bring out fewer voters than state and presidential elections.

Prospect had the highest voter turnout on Tuesday, with 58.7 percent of voters going to the polls. Sterling was the lowest, with 7.56 percent of registered voters casting ballots.

In Bridgeport, where there was a high-profile mayoral race, 20,660 of the city's 61,368 registered voters, or 33.67 percent, turned out to vote.

All but four Connecticut communities held local elections on Tuesday.
