Connecticut is becoming the 15th state to allow residents to register online to vote.
Secretary of the State Denise Merrill and Gov. Dannel P. Malloy unveiled the new system on Tuesday. It was part of a legislative package Merrill and Malloy proposed in 2012 to make it easier for people to cast their ballots.
People must be eligible to vote — age 18 years and older — and have a valid Connecticut driver's license or other form of identification issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles in order to use the system. Besides registering to vote, the site also allows people to change the name or address on their current registration and change their political party affiliation.
Merrill estimates there are about 200,000 eligible but unregistered voters in Connecticut.
