Massachusetts Congressman Richard Neal says new House Speaker Paul Ryan will be hemmed by his own Republican Party.Speaking Friday in Pittsfield, Neal, a Democrat and dean of Massachusetts’ congressional delegation, characterized House Speaker Paul Ryan as a knowledgeable and affable man.

“I think that given a different time he would be amenable toward finding common ground with us, but the 41 who drove Speaker Boehner from the chamber, they really are not united around what they’re for,” Neal said. “We all know what they are against…everything.”

“If he wants to be remembered at the end of his time for having accomplished anything, he’s going to need some Democratic support,” continued Neal.

Ryan of Wisconsin takes over for John Boehner who’s been Speaker of the House since 2011. Boehner resigned his Ohio congressional seat which he’s held since 1991.
