New Book Details Gilded Age Murders And Crimes In Berkshires

As Halloween approaches, a new book by a local author chronicles a number of high-profile murders and crimes that happened in the rural Berkshires during the Gilded Age. Andrew Amelinckx, a former crime and courts reporter for The Berkshire Eagle, takes readers through a number of tales that captured local and national headlines.  Amelinckx spoke with WAMC’s Berkshire Bureau Chief Jim Levulis about Gilded Age: Murder & Mayhem in the Berkshires, which is written like a series of dime novels.

Amelinckx is hosting two lectures and book signings in the Berkshires: October 20th at the Berkshire Historical Society’s Arrowhead in Pittsfield at 6 p.m. and October 30th at The Bookstore in Lenox at 7 p.m. He is holding a book signing October 31st at Magpie Bookshop in Catskill, New York from 5 to 7.

Jim was WAMC’s Assistant News Director and hosted WAMC's flagship news programs: Midday Magazine, Northeast Report and Northeast Report Late Edition.
